It’s o.k to slurp your miso soup
Just in case you were wondering, in Japanese culture it’s perfectly fine to slurp miso soup, or any soup for that matter. It’s not considered rude; rather it is an indication of the diner’s enjoyment of the soup.
Etiquette Tip for Drinking Japanese Soup
One tip: you really don’t have to use that plastic white spoon for miso soup. Traditionally, one uses chopsticks to eat the pieces of tofu and seaweed, and cups the bowl with both hands and drinks the broth of the soup. Much easier to slurp that way.
