Shimogamo: authentic Japanese dining

When retired businessman Yoshio Otomo couldn’t find a Japanese restaurant in town that pleased him, he opened his own. Good move: First-rate sushi is the main attraction, along with grazing fare such as tempura, broiled carp and katsu. I (MakiMom) was very impressed with Yoshio’s commitment to the freshness and quality of the sushi, even (politely) refusing to allow sushi takeout for me (it was too hot in the summer!). I  highly recommend Shimogamo for a authentic Japanese dining experience. Click here for a review from Gina Niemiec, azcentral.com, May 23, 2008.

Owner Yoshio Otomo brings his extensive experience of traditional Japanese food to his restaurant, Shimogamo in Chandler, AZ, which was established in 2003. The forte here is not just sushi, but also the innovative Japanese style dishes that have been carefully selected through [a] number of tasting sessions and a variety of opinions that came from both American and Japanese palate. The focus is the presentation of a true cultural fusion without losing its original flavors. The experience at Shimogamo is not only for veteran sushi lovers but also for first-timers. Anyone can enjoy the food at Shimogamo.

Shimogamo features a full sushi bar and dining area for both families and couples. The restaurant welcomes anyone who loves to try the best of the Japanese cuisine. Regular Japanese dishes – tempura, sukiyaki, teriyaki beef/salmon/chicken, udon noodles, miso soup, etc., are always available, but with more enhanced flavor, and other creative appetizers are also offered to the customers. If you don’t know what’s available or even what you want, just ask servers, sushi chefs or owner.

If you have questions, please call Yoshio Otomo at (480) 244-9514 or email yotomos@hotmail.com.
