How long ago did you begin eating sushi? 16
How were you introduced to sushi? A sushi bar opened up near my tae kwon do class, and my classmates took me.
Did you like sushi the first time you tried it? Yes. I ate it because I wasn’t going to look like a coward in front of the people against whom I’d be sparring in the next class, and discovered I liked it. I am an adventurous eater in some respects – I had an older brother and so grew up eating all of the things he didn’t like from his plate. Again, it was a survival tactic.
How often do you eat sushi? Once or twice a month How often would you like to eat sushi? Weekly, at least. Maybe twice a week for a while, then I could taper off to once a week when the recession ends. Sushi is a big comfort food for me.
What is your favorite (or favorites) sushi? I like the raw stuff. Tuna, whitetail, salmon.
What is your favorite sushi restaurant? Why? My favorite local sushi restaurant is Tomo Japanese Cuisine in Goodyear, Arizona. Everything is fresh, the presentation is excellent, the service is good, they do lots of specialty rolls, and the ambience is upscale.
What is your most memorable sushi experience? My daughter convinced me to get a bento box meal in a small restaurant (Asahi Sushi) in NJ. The meal had soba noodles, and I was trying to eat them with chopsticks. I had the whole place laughing before I gave up.
Where is the most unusual or exotic place/city you’ve eaten sushi? I hadn’t yet discovered sushi during my world travel days. That’s a shame, now that I think of it.
Have you converted/introduced anyone to sushi? How many people? I introduced my daughter to sushi. Now I never have to eat it alone!
What was your score on the “Are you really a sushi lover” test?

It’s not an addiction. It’s just a constant, deeply fulfilling choice.
Yes or No (comments welcome) – do you enjoy:
Nigiri sushi (slice of fish over rice) – yes
Maki (roll) sushi – yes
Temaki (handroll) sushi – yes, although I always manage to make a mess with this
Chirashi (sashimi over a bowl of rice) – yes, this is a frequent choice
Sashimi (slices of fish – no rice) – yes
Cooked sushi only – nothing raw – It’s okay. Texture and taste of raw is better.
Miso soup – love it
Edamame – not really a big fan of edamame.
Any other comments: Sushi is nutritious, low-fat, and delicious. What more can you ask from food?
