Sushi Eye in Motion’s Lion King Roll
In keeping with my promise to follow an old Japanese proverb (see Try New Sushi posted on January 29, 2009), I have happily discovered the Lion King Roll at Sushi Eye in Motion in historic downtown Chandler, home of Arizona’s first (and only?) restaurant that delivers sushi to bar patrons via conveyor belt.

This oh so yummy roll features California rolled in salmon with tobiko and baked in a mild spicy house sauce. Delicious!
Two other specialty rolls worth highlighting feature yellowtail, my favorite. The Second Climax Roll offers spicy yellowtail and cucumber rolled with yellowtail and dressed in wasabi sauce, tobiko, and macadamia nuts. The Elliot Roll features yellowtail and avocada rolled with fresh water eel and glazed with traditional unagi sauce and macadamia nuts.

You can order these rolls and much more from the menu, or enjoy the “special delivery” of the conveyor belt. I was first introduced to sushi this way when I lived in Japan (see My First Sushiposted on November 12, 2008) and absolutely love how these “mawari zushi” or “rolling sushi bars” offer one the ability to sample a wide variety of sushi in small portions. As with typical rolling sushi bars, at Sushi Eye in Motion one selects a “plate” of sushi that has been placed on a conveyor belt – pricing is according to the design/color of the plate.

Sushi via conveyor belt is a great way to introduce someone to sushi, as you can present a variety in small portions and not break the bank. It’s also great if you want to eat several different rolls at one sitting – the plates usually contain 4 pieces instead of the usual 8 pr 6, allowing you to sample a wider variety (much more affordably as well).
If you haven’t tried a rolling sushi bar before (or even if you have), or have been to Sushi Eye in Motion but not tried the Lion King Roll, submit a comment and let us know what you think when you do.
