Goodyear, AZ’s Tomo Japanese Cuisine
Sushi Lover Carol graciously submitted this review
of her favorite sushi restaurant. Thanks so much Carol!
My favorite sushi restaurant is Tomo Japanese Cuisine, located at 1550 N. Dysart Road, Suite A7, A8, A9, in Goodyear. Yes, it’s located in a strip mall, and it cannot be seen from Dysart or McDowell, but drive into the parking lot on the southwest corner of McDowell and Dysart and keep exploring the area until you find Tomo. It’s worth the effort.
Despite the strip mall location, Tomo’s interior is upscale: you’ll find a pleasant ambiance in shades of red and black, an attractive sushi bar with friendly chefs (sorry, MakiMom, they’re all male), three big screen televisions for watching sporting events, and plenty of comfortable seating at the drinks bar, the sushi bar, tables and booths. The service is attentive – aptly so for a restaurant whose name translates as “Friend.”
It’s the food that brings me back, though. Tomo serves a wide range of sushi, including their specialty rolls, which are displayed on a monitor over the drinks station to aid you in your selection. I personally am a big fan of chirashi, but my daughter has sampled at least 10 different combinations and has enjoyed them all. Tomo also offers cooked food for the cowards among you, including delightful udon for those chilly days. Or perhaps as accompaniment for a chilly cocktail.
There is no happy hour, but Tomo will be delighted to sign you up for its rewards program, which grants you a ten percent discount and another attractive plastic card to carry in your wallet. No, seriously, it looks nice. And you get a “birthday surprise,” which could be very interesting.
