Sashimi Pizza

Another great find from our roving Sushi Reporter Bennett Miller. Thanks Bennett!

Pictured is the Sashimi Pizza at Kiku Sushi Japanese Fusion located at 3491 Thomasville Rd, Tallahassee, FL 32309. Sashimi Pizza is made by toasting a sweet potato and Japanese vegetables flatbread, then covering the bottom with thin slices of sashimi. Next, a bed of seaweed salad is laid upon the fish. A light drizzle of spicy mayo is added on top of the seaweed, followed by the assortment of sashimi seen in the photo.  The pizza is sliced into six triangular pieces and makes a nice appetizer.

According to Bennett, Tallahassee, Florida isn’t a place that leaps to mind when you think of innovative cuisine, especially sushi.  However, like most cities, Tallahassee enjoys a very competitive restaurant market.  The campuses of Florida State University and Florida A&M University ensure that Tallahassee is filled with college students looking for something different to enjoy each weekend.  Growing up in Florida, seafood is a regular part of a Floridian’s diet. These are just a few reasons why Tallahassee is filled with a disproportionate number of sushi bars for such a small town in the South.  Sushi bars and their chefs are always looking for ways to attract new customers through sushi creations that arent seen in other parts of the United States.

From Makimom – sounds like the competition in Tallahassee is resulting in some yummy and creative sushi dishes. Thanks again Bennett. Anyone else out there stumble a creative sushi creation? Send a description and photo to MakiMom@sushiloversunite.com. Viva la sushi!
